What To Know About Obtaining A Free Cell Phone

What it takes to find a free cell phone normally falls under one of two actions. In the first, one can enter into a basic agreement with just about any provider of wireless services these days, and that’s the route most will take. But, there are a couple of different federal programs that can actually result in not only a free phone but also airtime to those who fall under certain income guidelines.

This can really be something for those who just can’t afford even those pay-upfront cell phone packages. They may not even be able to afford a stand-alone telephone in a home. What is for certain these days is that going without some kind of communication device such as a telephone or cell phone can really put a person at a disadvantage, including when it comes to an emergency situation.

A number of companies and organizations exist — with all having websites on the Internet — that will aid in helping the person get their free cell phone. Not only will they get the phone, but they’ll also have regular cellular service and a certain number of minutes per month which will roll over if they are not used. They will have to provide proof that they meet certain income guidelines, though.

For the most part, those wishing to qualify to obtain a free cell phone using government programs have to already be enrolled in some sort of other federal or state program that provides assistance. This may be those who live in public housing or are drawing on Medicaid for their health needs or are receiving food stamps. Income levels are not that strenuous, though.

For the most part, people must be making less than-6% of the federal or state poverty level before being eligible to qualify. Additionally, nobody else within the household can currently be participating in one of these free cell phone programs. It’s usually the case, however, that no one else will actually be enrolled in this sort of program.

Those wishing to qualify must also have a valid home address in order to receive their cell phones and other materials. Post office boxes are not considered acceptable addresses for purposes of aid granted for the cell phone programs that are sponsored by the government. Be prepared to provide proof of participation in one of those government aid programs such as Medicaid or public housing.

What to know about obtaining a free cell phone, then, is that just about any wireless service provider is including these phones has a part of their many promotional activities, and it won’t take much to obtain one. Also, the federal government is currently helping to provide assistance in order to enable people to obtain a free or steeply discounted cell phone and cellular service along with minutes.
