A Call To Standardize The Cell Phone Charger

Many of us are very frustrated by the many different cell phone chargers and adapter out on the market today. We have probably all bought a new phone and seen the specific phone charger that comes with it. It is actually downright rediculous that each cell phone has a different port and is not standardized. The reason that it’s even a problem is because if you forget your specific charger when you travel or are out on the road, you are pretty much dead in the water.

Some phone companies have attempted to standardize phone chargers in a small way. You have probably notices that many newer phone chargers have a USB connector to plug the phone into a computer and charge it using a computer USB port. This is all great and dandy but the adapter that actually fits into the phone is still different on every phone. That’s what we want standardized big phone companies, we want both ends to be universal! It’s so frustrating to buy a replacement cord and have to find the specific one that fits to the phone.

When confronted about the reason’s cell phone makers make different size cell phone charger ports, cell phone manufacturers claim that design and power usage of the phone determines the type of port used. Hopefully with the iphone being so popular, cell phone makers will make phones that all do the same things and standardize the port. Just like computers, cell phones should eventually come around and standardize the ports after enough people complain. Thats the key though, is that we need to stand up and share our frustration with our cell phone makers and providers.

Even though we are dealing with cell phone chargers ports, we went through the same thing in the computer world. For a long time different accessories like mice, keyboards, cameras, etc. all had special ports that would only work with a computer that possessed these special ports. Well once again USB has helped to standardize computer ports as you can buy a keyboard or mouse today that all have USB connectors to ensure they will work with any machine.

It is only going to be a matter of time before the cell phone makers will do the same thing. The thing to remember is that the computer world did not make the changes until they got enough complaints to actually make the change. I’m not trying to rally up a revolution, but we need to raise our voices to these bigger companies and express the frustration. Nothing is ever going to change unless they know that their consumers are upset about their products.

We all love cell phones and find them extremely useful. I have nothing against the cell phones on the market, only with the way the manufacturers make us buy specific cords to charge them. With enough complaints we can force the change.
